Turquoise is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gemstone and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue.  The name simply means “Turkish stone”. In Turkey, the name for turquoise is “Fayruz”, means the lucky stone and stone of happiness.  also associated with courage and success. It is a popular stone to give to dear friends.

Historically, and even largely today, the most admired stones are those with a fine robin’s egg or celestial blue color, with no visible matrix. This shade, sometimes called “Persian grade,” indicates the presence of little vanadium and no iron.

Turquoise is recognized as an auspicious gemstone for all aviators. It is said to bring good luck to all who wear it on a flight.  It has a long history in Europe as a good luck amulet for horses and horseback riders. It is a Symbol of Love, the anniversary gemstone for the 11th wedding anniversary. Turquoise Stone Ring was connected to lasting love.  Shakespeare’s play “The Merchant of Venice” referred the tradition. Russia has a long tradition of using turquoise in the wedding ring as a symbol of love.
